John Lennon saw the world differently than most; he has been quoted as saying that when he was 5 years old his mother told him that happiness was the key to life. When he went to school, they asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up so he wrote down 'happy'. They told him that he hadn't understood the assignment, and he told them they didn't understand life.
When I saw this section of the lyrics to John Lennon's famous song, it struck a note with me that while it may vary slightly from the original intention of the song, I think you will agree, it has the same underlying intention.
In this fast-paced world we live in now it is incredibly sad yet not surprising how many people suffer with depression. There are no social or economic boundaries and often the world just sees a brave smiling face, not the pain and anguish that is hidden behind the mask.
Sadly, mental health still has such a stigma attached to it, that often people with depression try to hide it from the world. It may be asking too much but I wish we could be in a world where those with depression could feel at ease to reveal their illness, so they don't feel so isolated and have to fight this debilitating illness on their own, have the support they so need and the world would start accepting mental illness as a genuine condition to fight with as much vigour as the cancers.
